I'm Elaine, I'm a UK Pole Dance Instructor, teaching pole dancing in Surrey since 2005, and this is my Blog, where I put video-clips, pictures and articles as a resource for pole students (and sometimes just to let off steam, hehe). I try to post regularly, and would love to read any feedback so do post a comment.. Or add your email to get new posts. Enjoy :-)

Pole Poll #1 Results

Why Learn to Pole Dance?

1. I want to learn a new skill (55%)
2. Pure personal satisfaction (51%)
3. To feel sexy (48%)
3. To push beyond my comfort zone and gain confidence (48%)

4. I heard it increases fitness (40%)
5. To surprise a loved one (22%)
6. I want to become a professional pole dancer (14%)
6. I want to train to become a pole instructor (14%)
6. I'm just curious as to what it's all about (14%)
7. As a conversation starter with friends / colleagues (7%)
8. I've lost my inner feminine mojo (3%)

Total 27 votes, multiple choices allowed.

Intriguing results. Elsewhere in the pole teaching industry, there's a concentrated effort to remove all sensual elements from pole dancing and have it 'performed' as a series of monkey tricks. In my classes though we do the slower, seductive and graceful movements as well as the tricks. In my opinion you can't have one without the other in true pole dancing; what's the point of doing an eye-popping trick if you cannot get up from the floor elegantly? Or move from one spin effortlessly into another.

Watch this space for the next pole poll, thanks for voting and do feel free to post a comment suggesting a topic.

How about why people continue to pole dance? Lots of people start, only some of us are masochistic enough to continue.

Yes I'll have to add a couple of things to the original list (bites tongue)
