Hello

I'm Elaine, I'm a UK Pole Dance Instructor, teaching pole dancing in Surrey since 2005, and this is my Blog, where I put video-clips, pictures and articles as a resource for pole students (and sometimes just to let off steam, hehe). I try to post regularly, and would love to read any feedback so do post a comment.. Or add your email to get new posts. Enjoy :-)

Improve your pole dancing - squeeze a ball

Squeezing rubber stress balls or tennis balls is great for pole dancing. How?

1. The exercise will strengthen hands by working the muscles which flex the thumbs and fingers, therefore improving hand grip.

2. It exercises and strengthens the muscles of the forearms. Stronger forearm muscles will help support and stabilise the wrist joint. Therefore improving pole techniques (Split Grip) and positions (Handstands etc) which exert pressure on the wrist. This applies to spins like the Carousel or Cradle; and Inverted Aerial Holds like the Butterfly or Aysha, for example.

3. Therefore squeezing balls is great for strength building and injury prevention.

4. Technique - Squeeze and hold for 8-10 seconds, then release. Repeat a couple of times, enough to feel mild fatique, but never pain.
